Gaming Answers
Q: Who provides the video game consoles?
A: If you do not bring your own console, the system and television you are playing on are the property of a student attending Marist College. They donate their equipment for the day so that others can have fun at the event, and because they want to do something to give back to the community.
Q: Who is responsible for the video game consoles and the PC games?
A: As is the case with all video games and computer game tournaments, all things are brought at your own risk. While Marist uses every possible precaution possible to prevent anything from occurring while your equipment is at the event, we cannot insure its safety from damage or theft. There will be security, staff, and guards in place to protect the equipment that is brought to the event, but it is recommended that you never abandon your equipment while you are in attendance. Also we recommend having the newest Antivirus programs installed, in addition to the latest version of your operating system patched with all updates.
Q: Do I have to register if I am coming to only play video games?
A: No, if you are only coming to play video games there is no need to register ahead of time.
Equipment Answers
Q: What should I bring?
A: Your computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and headphones . We also
recommend the drivers disks to your computer in the event something
breaks, blank CDs for drivers you may have forgotten, and a positive
attitude to have some fun while you?re here!
Q: Will there be an internet connection at the event?
A: If you are a Marist student, or have an active Marist account, you
will be able to access the Marist wireless network. We are currently
also working on having an outside internet line, but that is still
currently in an exploratory stage.
A: No, you will have to purchase all the games you wish to play prior to
your arrival at the tournament.
Q: Can I use 802.11b equipment to connect to the LAN?
A: At this time there are no plans to have an 802.11 infrastructure in
place at the event.
Q: Are computer speakers allowed at the event?
A: Due to the noise already being made at the event, we ask that you
please not bring speakers. We recommend headphones if you would like to
have sound.
Q: Can I bring my own system if I would like to not rotate with other
video game players?
A: Yes, if you do not wish to take turns playing console games, we
recommend bringing your own console, television, and games.
Q: How fast is the network?
A: A lot faster than it probably should be. There will be a corporate
level switch there controlling the event, and it will be staffed and
monitored throughout the day.
